Every day we hear more and more businesses complaining that they’re finding it harder and harder to be seen on Facebook. Yes, Facebook organic reach has declined over the past year or so but it just means you need to be smarter with your Facebook marketing and ensure you are producing great quality content your followers actually are interested in.

What you need to know about the Facebook News Feed Algorithm

 The Facebook News Feed is built around each user’s individual preferences, not dictated by the content itself.

When you do publish content Facebook looks at the following:

  • Who posted it – How often does the user engage with content from the publisher?
  • When was it posted – Recency is a factor
  • Type of Content – How often does the user engage with this type of content
  • Interactions with the post – The amount of interactions infers a certain level of importance
  • Key Words – Words such as “congratulations” Facebook gives more relevance to

So how do you maximise your reach? Here are our top tips!

  1. Don’t post overly promotional content

Facebook users are there to hang out with friends and family and be entertained. When creating content keep to the 80% value/20% promotion rule.

  1. Post at off peak times

  1. Create content like a fan and not a marketer

Think about what kind of content “fans” want to see in News Feed. Provide timely, relevant, and valuable content that your audience will actually read.

  1. Try organic targeting

Utilise organic targeting to make sure your post is seen by the people most likely to engage with it. Targeting options include: Interests, Gender, Age, Location and Language.

  1. Start using Live Videos

It’s the best way to interact with your viewers in real time and your followers will receive notifications when you go live. Live videos are more likely to show up higher in the newsfeed

  1. Try things!

Experiment as the same thing doesn’t work for everyone.

  1. Utilise Facebook Insights

By looking at your Insights and Audience Insights you’ll be able to see when your followers are online and what’s relevant to your target market.

Think about this…

When you post content on your Facebook Business page nothing happens until the people that follow your page open up Facebook. Its then that Facebook looks at that story/content and all the other stories/content that they could the user and then tries to figure out what they’re most interested in.

This and this alone is the number 1 reason why you need to create great quality content!
