A day in the life of a Marketing Assistant

In everyday life it’s quite often you get asked ‘What do you do for work’?

When I get asked this question, I always find I get the same response ‘What does a marketing assistant ACTUALLY do’? I have come to realise this is because people have such a misunderstanding of what marketing is and what it involves.

So if you’re interested here is how I spend my day;

My alarm goes off sometime between 7.00am and 7:30am each morning. Depending on my energy levels (I am 8 months pregnant) I either hop out of bed and get moving or spend a few minutes scrolling through Facebook (personal and work pages), text my husband and Kat or Megan. At the end of the day they have the Mini Gloss girls so any event could have occurred through the night which may impact my day.

7.30am

I am a breakfast person! Always have been, never quite understood these people who just get up and go!! I make my breakfast, sit down at the table and open my laptop, even though I haven’t ‘officially’ started work for the day, I check my emails to see what’s install for the day… Next step; I choose an outfit, head to the bathroom for a shower and get ready.

I am not going to lie, it is sometimes at this point I get carried away and continue to work or do personal chores on my laptop that I lose track of time and before I know it, it is 9am and I am still in my pjs! However, no biggie as I work from home! And for those who are wondering, there has been days where I have been caught out and Kat and Megan along with the Mini Gloss girls rocked up at my house for Meetings and Lunch.

9.00am – Start work

For the next few hours (give or take) I’m head down bum up. I spend my morning responding and actioning urgent emails, managing social media, managing the company email account, graphic design and researching. Researching can sometimes take up an entire day or even days! It is an important aspect of the job and being as prepared as possible for each task means successful and positive results, especially when we are organising events.

12:00pm – Lunch break

Generally, around 12pm I stop and take a break, allow myself to re focus before getting back to the afternoon duties.

12.30pm – 5.00pm

For the remainder of the day I complete the days task, cleanout out my emails and ensure all clients have scheduled social media posts for the evening and days to come.

7.00pm-Midnight

I sit down on the couch to unwind and the emails begin. Kat and Megan are nocturnal!

Some nights I try to resist checking however after 3+ pings in a row I start to get curious as to what the following day involves.

Although this may seem like a very simple day, it does vary quite often depending on what the demands are from my directors. There are also monthly tasks such as reports and invoicing which are completed on the 1st week of each month. Collation of these takes time and concentration as there is a lot of numbers and formulas involved.

While it is a 24 hour, 7 day a week role it is fast passed, interesting and always fun.
