What You Should Be Doing To Prepare Your Marketing For 2018

If you haven’t started looking at your marketing for 2018 then its time to get started so after you finish reading this I suggest you clear your schedule. For your marketing to be successful you need to know what your goals and objectives are and a sound understanding of who your target audience is. With this information you can then create a plan of how you will reach your target audience to achieve your objectives. Although next year seems a little while away the reality is its only 3 ½ weeks until we ring in 2018 so I’ve prepared a list of what you need to get ready to kick start your marketing in the new year.

  1. Evaluate how your marketing has been this year. Take a look back over the last 12 months and see what has worked and what hasn’t. If you have been keeping reports you will be able to see the figures quite easily and get a feel for what you need to stop doing and what you need to improve on. Did you meet your business objectives? It’s important to go over your objectives to see after 12 months if you achieved what you planned to for the year in your business. The outcomes of your findings will help you plan what you need to look at for your marketing next year.

  1. Set new objectives. After you have evaluated what you’ve done, take the time to re-define your goals and objectives so you have a new target to work towards. Some objectives may carry over from the previous year and others may be new. What’s important here is that you write them down and make sure they are measurable? If you can’t measure your goals you won’t know whether all your efforts are paying off.

  1. Put a plan in place. It doesn’t have to be a fancy strategy, a single piece of paper with notes will suffice – but plan out how you are going to meet your objectives in the time you have. For example, if you want to run a campaign to attract more sales for a particular product around Valentines Day then you need to start planning your campaign well in advance (that means start of January). A guide for how far in advance you should prepare a campaign is around 6 weeks including the planning and executing of that campaign. You would have already noticed that as soon as Christmas and New Year are out the way within what feels like a few weeks we start hearing about Easter J It’s all planned out in advance!

  1. Refresh collateral (where possible). There is nothing better than starting the new year fresh with a spring clean and the same goes for your marketing collateral. Get some new headshots, take some new photos and update your website, social media, brochures etc so you start the new year fresh and rejuvenated – your customers will notice it!

If you have any other suggestions we would love to hear what you do to get your marketing ready for the new year!
