Here’s What You Need To Know About Facebooks Recent Updates

Social media changes at the speed of light and social media platforms are constantly evolving. One feature could be here today and gone tomorrow. Facebook has recently rolled out what seems like a thousand changes at once, some you might not even be aware of. So we’ve done the hard work for you and put together a summary of Facebooks recent updates.

The Ability To Edit A Link Preview Has Been Removed

Facebook is serious about cracking down on fake news and click bait and has removed the ability to edit a link preview when you post content on your page. When you previously uploaded a post that had a link to Facebook, Facebook automatically generated a link preview. It took the header image from the post to display with your link. You could edit the headline, description and image. The problem was that scammers could edit the image and the text enticing you to click on the link and then send you to a questionable link.

If you’re a media publisher, Facebook is giving you the option to claim link ownership to your website under Publishing Tools, so you will have the ability to edit your link previews.

You Can Create A Linked Group To Your Page

Groups for Pages is now available worldwide. Earlier this year you could start to post as your page in groups and now you can link your group to your business page. This is great for community building.

Linking Facebook group to business page

To link a group to your page go to:

  • Settings
  • Edit Page
  • Scroll down to tabs
  • Select Add Tab and add the Group Tab
  • Go back to your page and “Groups” will be added to your tabs
  • Click on the Group tab and then get started and link your group

Group Admins Can Now Access Analytics

Facebook has rolled out group insights for admins. Now, with Group Insights, if you’re an admin on a page, you’ll be able to see real-time metrics around growth, engagement and membership — such as the number of posts and times that members are most engaged.

Facebook Page Covers are a Changing!

You can now add a video as your cover. Here’s what Facebook says:

“We’re always looking for ways to help businesses create more engaging experiences and drive more rich experiences for their audiences. To do this, we’re testing the ability for pages to upload a cover video as the page cover. By making cover video available, we want to help you create more engaging interaction and drive more rich experience for your audience by letting you spotlight your creative content in one of the most prominent space: your Page cover.”

Your cover is the first thing someone sees when they go to your site and by having a video it captures your attention right away. I would build a video that is specific for your Facebook cover and not try integrate an existing video.

They are also testing out an option that allows Pages to add embedded text to their cover photos. Not sure what the outcome of this will be, I’ve only seen it on a few pages and have found it annoying.

I would love to know what you think of Facebooks recent updates and if you’ve come across any of them yourself.
